Liposuction
Consultations offered at our three convenient locations in Austin, TX, San Antonio, TX and Westlake Hills, TX
It can be frustrating to lose weight and still have those last stubborn pockets of fat no matter how hard you exercise or how many calories you cut. As the most common cosmetic surgery in the U.S., liposuction is a popular way to sculpt your body to reach your aesthetic goals. During liposculpting surgery, your surgeon will remove fat cells in areas like your stomach, thighs, back, and love handles.
If you are at a stable weight but cannot remove that stubborn fat from specific areas of your body, liposuction in San Antonio may be a good choice to help you look and feel your best. Our team can help determine if liposuction is the right body sculpting procedure for you.
Before and After Photos
Procedure
Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which your surgeon uses specialized cannulas that can safely sculpt your body by removing unwanted fat. Some types of liposuction use ultrasonic energy or lasers to break up your fat cells so your surgeon can remove the fat more effectively. After the fat has been treated with ultrasonic energy such as VASER then we will begin sculpting. Liposuction is more than removing fat. Liposculpting is the art of creating the sculpted body that you have desired. We take an incredible amount of pride and joy in helping you achieve your desired appearance. Below is a small list of the areas that are commonly sculpted with liposuction:
- Hips and thighs
- Stomach
- Buttocks
- Chest and back
- Chin and neck
- Upper arms
Your surgeon has a variety of options when performing your body sculpting to help you achieve your desired results. There is a range of lipo sculpting from soft to high-definition liposuction to help you create a more athletic appearance to your abdomen, buttocks, and various other body parts.
Your surgeon in San Antonio may perform liposuction in combination with other cosmetic procedures like a tummy tuck, facelift, or breast reduction to help you achieve the best results possible.
Considerations
Liposuction is not a weight-loss technique and is unlikely to work effectively as a weight-loss procedure. An ideal liposuction patient should be close to a healthy weight and need help to remove fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise regimens. If you are overweight or want to reduce your overall size, you may not get the desired results from liposuction.
Liposuction will not remove cellulite or fix problems with your skin. If cellulite is your primary concern, our surgeons can recommend other treatments that may work better to correct this issue.
To achieve your desired results with liposuction, you need to have healthy, elastic skin that can adjust to the new contours of your body. If age, disease, smoking, or environmental factors have damaged your skin, it may not be firm enough to mold to your new shape. You can talk to our team in San Antonio to determine whether you are a good candidate for liposuction. Some patients may also do liposuction in combination with skin tightening procedures such as Renuvion (J-Plasma).
Process
You will first meet with one of our surgeons to identify the areas you can treat. Your surgeon may advise you to avoid certain medications and alcohol for two weeks before surgery. Before your liposuction procedure, our San Antonio team may examine you, identify the areas where fat removal should occur, and take photos of your body. Your surgeon will also discuss if you are a good candidate for high-definition liposculpting and the various degrees of definition that are appropriate for your aesthetic goals.
On the day of your surgery, your procedure is typically done under general anesthesia, however, localized areas of liposuction such as arms, neck, and so forth can be done under local anesthesia. The entire procedure can take one to four hours, depending on how many areas are being treated by your surgeon. The surgical staff will monitor you after your procedure to ensure you are comfortable. Typically, patients go home on the day of the treatment.
Recovery
You may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising as your body heals. You may need to leave your incisions open to drain properly. If this is the case, our team will show you how to care for your incisions at home and may give you tight compression garments to help reduce the swelling and improve healing. You will need to rest for at least a few days after surgery, and it could be a few weeks before you return to your previous levels of activity.
Following liposuction, you will need to adhere to a healthy diet. Although your surgeon has removed your fat cells, you can still gain weight. The remaining fat cells can increase in size if you fail to maintain a healthy weight.
