What is Unique About Motiva Implants?

The Motiva implant is a new advancement in breast augmentation that has been made recently available to patients and doctors in the United States. It has a new type of technology that sets it apart from other implants. While it is new to the United States, it has a long-standing safety and performance track record outside the United States. The unique implants are characterized by their smooth silk surface technology, increased elasticity, and enhanced shaping capabilities. At Austin Plastic Surgeon, we offer Motiva 6th-generation implants to provide our patients with the most cutting-edge technology in breast augmentation because they have several advantages over more traditional saline or silicone implants.

About Motiva Implants

Sixth-generation Motiva implants come in two different forms: Ergonomix and Round. These two different variations of the Motiva implants come with their own unique characteristics. Ergonomix implants are more likely to imitate natural breast tissue, thanks to the lower rigidity of the gel inside them. This is the ProgressiveGel Ultima®, which allows for a softer breast that can maintain a more flexible, dynamic shape that follows along with the movements of the body. In one study, 84.6% of surgeons agreed that the Ergonomix Motiva implants helped patients achieve a more natural look. (1)

While the Ergonomix implants can more closely imitate the softness of a natural breast, the Motiva SmoothSilk Round implants contain a more rigid gel that allows the breast to maintain a more round, voluminous shape. This variation is great for patients who are looking to maintain more of an upper breast fullness. (1)

After a study evaluating all of the technological advancements of Motiva implants, 92.3% of the surgeons who participated in the study decided to start incorporating Motiva implants in their work. (1)

New Technology, New Benefits

The newest improvements to Motiva implants allow for patients to benefit in the following ways:

  • Smaller incisions: TrueMonobloc® construction technology allows surgeons to insert the implants through smaller incisions with more ease. This, in turn, can result in smaller, less apparent scars. (1,2)
  • Nanoscale Shell Surface (aka Smoot Silk): Motiva techniques produce a nanoscale-structured surface, meaning the smoothness of these implants operates even at the cellular level. Three-dimensional surface imprinting technology allows for this silk-smooth surface that is less abrasive to surrounding tissues, minimizing the body’s inflammatory response to foreign substances. (1,2)
  • Less than 1% capsular contracture rate: In one study, 76.9% of surgeons agreed that Motiva implants reduced the rate of capsular contracture or scar tissue hardening. (1)
  • Preservation breast utilization: Surgeons can use preservation breast techniques with Motiva implants to achieve more natural-looking breast augmentations. This occurs by harnessing the power of the breast’s own support ligament structure to get the most lift support of the tissue with an enhanced natural look.
  • Novel Gel Cohesivity: Enhanced gel cohesion paired with precise viscoelasticity allows for the Motiva implants to maintain the shape of the shell and filling while remaining pillowy and soft. This allows the breasts to maintain a natural, voluminous shape even when moved. (1)
  • Filled implants: This new generation of Motiva implants benefits from a 100% gel filling, which further enhances the implant’s abilities to imitate natural breast tissue and how natural breasts would move. This fullness also allows for minimized inflammation or stiffness that can be caused by traditional implants. (1)
  • Two implant styles to meet patient’s goals, Ergonomix, and round implants: This newest generation of Motiva implants comes in the form of Ergonomix, which has more of a natural, softer shape, and round implants, which maintain more upper breast fullness. This translates into a more natural slope in the upper part of the breast. The round style creates more of a projected full upper half of the breast.
  • Less risk of rippling: The strategic interaction of precise gel cohesivity and viscoelasticity and the shell of Motiva implants minimizes wrinkling and folding potential, which makes the implants less likely to ripple after dynamic movements or compression. This is especially beneficial for patients with thinner skin, as implant rippling can be more apparent in these patients.
  • True monobloc technology: this refers to a stronger interaction between the gel of the implant and the inside of the implant shell. This strong relationship results in better shape, maintenance, and less rippling.

Candidates

Candidates for Motiva implants are typically women who want to enhance the size and shape of their breasts with the most advanced generation of Motiva implants. They may suffer from breast asymmetry or are simply dissatisfied with the current look of their breasts. Candidates should be in overall good health with no conditions or issues that could impede a breast implant procedure. While Motiva implants are more likely to imitate the appearance of natural breasts when compared to traditional implants, patients should still maintain realistic expectations about what is possible with these implants.

Additionally, candidates should be at least 18 years old. If a candidate is a smoker, they should be willing to quit for some time before their procedure.

Preparation

After scheduling your Motiva implant procedure, your Austin Plastic Surgeon professional will explain what the preparation process looks like. They may recommend that you take certain steps on your own, such as:

  • Avoiding certain medications and supplements that can thin blood
  • Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle in the weeks leading up to your surgery
  • Discontinuing nicotine use, as this can adversely affect healing
  • Ensuring you have transportation arranged for the day of your surgery

Optimized Procedure

During the Motiva breast implant procedure, surgeons can place the implant through smaller incisions. In some cases, the surgeon may choose to place the implant slightly higher on the chest wall if they are using the Ergonomix Motiva implant. This is because of the soft and dynamic nature of the Ergonomic implant, as they tend to create a more natural breast profile, as opposed to mainly prioritizing a full, round shape. When using a round implant, they may place the implant slightly lower. (1) After securing the implant within the breast pocket, the surgeon will close the incisions.

This procedure usually takes about 1-2 hours, depending on procedural specifics.

Easier Recovery

Following the Motiva implant procedure, it is normal for patients to experience some discomfort, but your professional will let you know what steps you can take to minimize symptoms. Thanks to the TrueMonobloc® technology and extra smooth shell, the implants cause less friction inside the breast pocket. This helps to mitigate the body’s inflammatory response, making for an easier recovery. The incisions can also be smaller, which will also be easier on the skin.

Austin Plastic Surgeon professionals will provide patients with detailed postoperative care instructions, which may include some of the following considerations:

  • Keeping activity low and avoiding strenuous exercise for several weeks
  • Attending follow-up appointments to monitor healing and address concerns

Most patients can return to many normal daily activities within a week or two, but full recovery can take a few months after a breast implant procedure.

Enhanced Results

Motiva’s 6th-generation implants have shown great results in terms of safety, aesthetics, and patient satisfaction. Motiva implants have lower complication rates, including rupturing and rippling, than their traditional counterparts.

Motiva implants will result in a fuller, more lifted breast appearance while still maintaining a more natural look. Precise aesthetic results will depend on whether the patient has chosen Round or Ergonomix implants. Patients will need to replace their implants after a certain period, which the Austin Plastic Surgeon professional will indicate during a personal consultation.

FAQ

Who is a good candidate for Motiva implants?

Good candidates for Motiva implants are women over the age of 18 who seek breast enhancement for cosmetic purposes and are in good health. Candidates should also have realistic expectations and be willing to stop smoking activity, if applicable.

How long do Motiva implants last?

While Motiva implants can last many years, regular evaluations are necessary to ensure they remain intact and function correctly.

Is there any pain associated with the Motiva implant procedure?

Patients may experience discomfort post-operatively, but this is well-managed with pain relief prescribed by a professional. Motiva recovery is easier due to the reduced inflammatory response allowed by the silk-smooth implant surface.

What should I expect during recovery after receiving Motiva implants?

You can expect some swelling and bruising initially, followed by gradual improvement. Most patients resume many of their normal activities within one to two weeks after their procedure.

Can I breastfeed after having Motiva implants?

Breastfeeding is often possible following implantation, but each case should be discussed with a professional for personalized advice.
