About Tuberous Breast Correction

Tuberous breasts, also known as tubular breasts, are breasts that did not develop into a round shape during puberty. Tuberous breasts may have a gap or appear oval-shaped. They may also have nipples that point downward or large areolas. Tuberous breasts can affect your self-esteem, the way your clothing fits, and your ability to breastfeed. With breast augmentation surgery, we can reshape the breasts for a curvier, more balanced figure. Preparation

To prepare for tuberous breast correction, you will need to stop taking medications and supplements that thin the blood. You will also need to arrange for someone you trust to drive you home and care for you. We recommend that you schedule time off work and that you ask for someone to care for you for the first 24-72 hours. We can also provide specific instructions to help you prepare based on your specific treatment plan.

Procedure

During your procedure, we will cleanse your skin and mark it for surgery. Our team will place you under anesthesia.

Breast Augmentation with Implants

If you receive breast augmentation with implants, we will make a small incision and create a pocket inside the breast to place the implant. We can place the implant in front of the muscle (subglandular placement) or behind the muscle (submuscular placement), depending on your needs. ⁽²⁾ We may make a deeper suture to prevent the implant from shifting, also known as “bottoming out.” The close-fitting pocket will prevent the implant from expanding. ⁽³⁾

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

If you receive a fat transfer, we will make a small incision in the area where you would like to remove excess fat and cleanse the tissue with tumescent fluid, causing the fat cells to swell for easier removal. We will remove the excess fat with gentle suction that preserves the surrounding tissue and extracts the most viable fat cells. Next, we will reinject the fat into the breasts to increase their volume for a rounder, curvier shape. After making adjustments, we will close the treatment area with sutures, and you will return to our recovery room to rest.

Recovery

You can return home after your monitoring period. If you experience discomfort or swelling in the treatment area, you can alleviate it with a cold compress or medication. We can prescribe medication to help you recover more comfortably. You must also refrain from strenuous exercise for several weeks to help your body heal. Most patients will need to take several days off work as well, depending on the physical demands of their job.
